Osteoporosis is a serious condition in which the bones of the sufferer are weakened, sometimes to the point of becoming brittle. There are some contributing factors that are beyond anyone’s control, such as advanced age and gender (since women suffer more from osteoporosis than men). However, there are factors that can be controlled that can help prevent osteoporosis. These include avoiding excess alcohol, quitting smoking and getting enough vitamins. The most important vitamins for potential victims of osteoporosis are Vitamins D, K and C. Calcium supplements can also be added to the diet as they will strengthen bones.
