They have mainly three functions: cosmetic, processing aids and preservatives. It is assumed that there are about 3794 types of additives out of which 90% have only cosmetic value. More than three-fourth of the western foods comprises of processed foods.

Till the last decade, the use of additives was no so extensive. There is nothing natural about the additives and they are synthetic. When the additives enter the body, the body treats them as foreign bodies and start resisting them. This causes different food allergies or irritant in the body.

The people are becoming more dependent on the fast food but they are not much aware of the toxins that they are taking inside. Sweetener like aspartame contains so much of toxic chemicals that they can cause brain cancer. Another popular additive is MSG which can cause Fibromyalgia and ADHD.
It is a conclusive fact that all food additives have adverse affects on health thus they should be avoided as much as possible.
